We had our final hotel breakfast for this trip and already we knew we'd miss our hotel's Horizon Lounge! The food and service were amazing!

We checked out at 11am and hailed two cars via Didi (CN¥35 each) to Beijing South Railway Station.

We tried to buy the High Speed Train tickets to Shanghai via the automated kiosk but realised that they were not meant for foreigners. We had to look for the ticketing counters and produce our passports to buy our tickets.

Ticketing Counters |
On hindsight, we should have booked our tickets online weeks earlier because the express 4.5-hour tickets were sold out when we tried to buy at the counter. We had no choice but to buy the tickets for the regular train that would stop at multiple stations and take 6 hours! On the bright side, regular tickets were cheaper and cost us CN¥598 per adult and CN¥331 per child under 12 years old.
We bought our lunch from the station before we boarded the train.

After we had gotten our lunch, we headed to Platform 9 to board the train.

Six hours on a train with kids was super long and grueling! On hindsight, we should have skipped the multi-city travel! Once and never again!

Beautiful scenery along the way helped! |
We finally arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station at 6.45pm.

As we were exiting the station, we saw BreadTalk having a end-of-day sale and decided to buy bread for the next morning. Then we joined the taxi queue to board 2 taxis (CN¥90 each) to Pudong Shangri-La Hotel.
Our hotel was located on The Bund, part of the famous skyline that Shanghai is famous for! This includes being neighbours with the recognisable Oriental Pearl TV Tower 东方明珠!

On arrival, we proceeded to the front desk to check in.

The hotel also provided us with a complimentary single bed per room to accommodate our children below 12 years old! Super attentive of them! 🥰

The hotel has an indoor swimming pool that the Hubby and 2 younger kids enjoyed! However, the hotel insisted that guests bought expensive swimming caps from them in order to use the pool! I did not think this was fair and have given feedback to the hotel to loan swimming caps instead, just like Lotte Hotel World had done!

We were famished after a long commute and walked to Super Brand Mall next door to have dinner. The Eldest did not join us as she was not feeling well.

We headed to the 8th floor, where many of the restaurants were located. The Hubby decided on Xi Ma Xiang, a restaurant specialising in Lanzhou beef noodles.

On the way back to our hotel, we stopped to take pictures with the Shanghai Tower 上海中心大厦, the tallest building in China and currently 2nd tallest building in the world after the the Burj Khalifa in Dubai!

We slept early as we were exhausted! Couldn't wait to explore Shanghai!
